Calendar Use & Submission Guidelines
The ESSN Community Calendar is a public resource designed to make posting and discovering community events as easy and accessible as possible. Anyone may submit an event without creating an account, providing an email address, or sharing any identifying information. This openness allows more community participation, but it also means we rely on good faith and collective responsibility to keep this tool useful and safe.

Please read the guidelines below before submitting your event.

1. Purpose of the ESSN Calendar
The ESSN Calendar exists to uplift events that support the working class, strengthen community solidarity, and align with the values of:

• Solidarity
• Diversity
• Respect

Events may be educational, cultural, civic, labor-related, artistic, organizing-focused, or general community gatherings.

The calendar is not a general advertising space and is not intended for commercial promotion disconnected from community or worker uplift.

2. Who May Submit Events
Anyone may submit an event, including:

Individuals
Community groups
Non-profits
Labor unions and union locals
Student groups
Faith organizations
Businesses (see Section 11)
No login or personal information is required to post.
However, events may be flagged or removed if they violate our guidelines or values.

3. Required Fields & Event Information
When adding an event, please complete all required fields:

Event Title (required)
Event Description (required)
Date & Time
Event Image (optional) — JPG, PNG, GIF under 2GB
Event Tags
Virtual Event Info (if applicable)
Event Status
Venue Details (choose an existing venue or create a new one)
Organizer Details
Website Link (optional)
Please ensure all information is accurate, clear, and relevant to attendees.

4. Editing or Cancelling Events
If you submit an event without creating a free WordPress account, you cannot modify, edit, or cancel the event after posting.
To request changes or removal:

Email: essn@solidaritynetwork.org

If you create a free WordPress account and are granted permissions, you will be able to edit your own submissions.

5. Honor System & Community Monitoring
Because our calendar is open-access, we rely on community members to:

Post only accurate events
Avoid misuse (spam, fake events, inappropriate content)
Report any abusive or suspicious entries
If you see a problem, please notify us at essn@solidaritynetwork.org.

6. ESSN Event Flagging System (Safety & Trust Indicators)
ESSN may assign a flag to events to help users understand the level of trust, verification, and potential risk associated with an event.
Flags reflect what ESSN knows or can verify, they are not judgments about political content or ideological alignment.

🟢 Green Flag – Trusted / Family Friendly
We know the organizers and trust the event. It is considered safe, family-friendly, and appropriate for broad community participation.

🟡 Yellow Flag – Unverified Organizers (Standard Caution)
ESSN does not know the organizers or cannot vet their organization.
This does NOT mean the event is unsafe, only that we cannot vouch for:

Organizational legitimacy
Safety practices
How attendee information (names, phone numbers, emails) may be handled
Use normal, everyday caution when interacting with new organizations.

🔴 Red Flag – Unverified Organizers With Elevated Caution
ESSN does not know the organizers and there are additional concerns about the event or group, including:

Unclear organizational identity
Unknown data practices
Lack of publicly available information
Prior reports of misleading, overly aggressive, or questionable outreach
A red flag does not mean the event is unsafe or harmful, but community members should be more cautious, especially when:

Providing personal information
Signing up for email or text lists
Sharing location or contact details
This flag is used when ESSN genuinely cannot determine the trustworthiness of the event or organizer.

⚫ Black Flag – Non-Violent Direct Action With Higher Risk of Conflict
We know and trust the organizers, and the event is intended to be non-violent.
However, due to situational factors, there is a higher risk of conflict, such as:

Counter-protesters
Law enforcement escalation
Environmental risks associated with direct action locations
A black flag indicates non-violent intentions but elevated real-world risk.

7. Content Standards
Events must:

Uphold working-class values
Align with ESSN’s core values: Solidarity, Diversity, Respect
Be relevant to Lane County or Oregon communities
Be appropriate for public listing
Prohibited content includes:
Illegal activities
Explicit or pornographic material
Hate speech, harassment, or discriminatory events
Content promoting fascism, racism, or violence.
Events clearly designed to mislead or defraud
Business advertisements unrelated to community benefit
ESSN may remove any event at any time.

8. ESSN’s Right to Edit or Remove Events
Because many submissions are anonymous:

ESSN may delete any event without prior notification
ESSN may make minor formatting edits for clarity
ESSN may deny or remove events that violate guidelines, values, or community trust
We will attempt to notify organizers when possible, but often we will have no contact information.

9. Disclaimers & User Responsibility
ESSN cannot verify all information posted.
Attendees participate at their own risk.
ESSN is not responsible for injuries, conflicts, or harm resulting from attendance.
ESSN is not responsible for third-party website links or external data collection.
Please use your own judgment when attending any event.

10. Privacy Considerations
Because you may post anonymously:

ESSN does not collect personal data from anonymous submissions
Contact information you choose to provide is public on the event listing
We do not share organizer information beyond what is published
11. Business Event Policy
Businesses may post events only when the event meaningfully supports working-class values or community uplift, such as:

✔ Labor history nights
✔ Union appreciation discounts
✔ Fundraisers for workers
✔ Community benefit events
✔ Cultural or arts events with public benefit

Events that exist primarily to promote a for-profit product or sale will be removed.
Example:
✘ Walmart posting a dog food sale
✔ A local bar hosting a labor-themed music night

ESSN reserves the right to decide what fits.

12. Reporting Problems
If you see an inappropriate event, a fake entry, safety concern, or misuse of the calendar, please contact:

essn@solidaritynetwork.org

Our community calendar only works because the community helps keep it safe and useful.

13. Updates to These Guidelines
ESSN may update these guidelines at any time. Continued use of the calendar constitutes agreement with the most recent version.
